Time to add some spice into your workout
Changing things up and adding variety on a regular basis to your workout makes sticking to training so much more fun!
Every now and then I start to feel as if I’m not getting anywhere with my training - I can get into a rut and find myself doing the same routine of exercises over and over again. Once I begin to feel this way I know it is time to take action and make some changes to kick-start me all over again.
This month I have made June a time for us to reflect on our fitness and health goals and look at kick-starting 2015 all over again. It is never too late to make a change and each day is a fresh start to begin something new in your life.
This week I thought I would continue on this theme by looking at the importance of adding variety and change to our exercise programs and routines.
When you sit on an exercise program for a long period of time - it can limit your progression with attaining your fitness goal, as your body starts to adapt your results can often slow down.
When this happens motivation can start to wain and it can lead to disappointment. The momentum you once had starts to decrease day by day and you can find yourself very bored from doing the same thing over and over again and sometimes just stop.
I know for myself, changing things up and adding variety on a regular basis keeps me passionate about my exercise and makes sticking to my training so much more fun!
There are so many ways to make easy changes which will keep you keen and making headway with your goals.
. Change the type of exercise you are doing
. If you are doing weights get a whole new program – when it comes to resistance training, updating your program every 6 to 8 weeks will make an enormous different to your success
Increase your weight or alter your repetitions depending on your goals
Add in some high intensity training session to your workout days
Find yourself a training partner or gather together a group of friends
Look for a Boot camp – there are so many around and some gyms are offering indoor boot-camps to combat the colder days
Step outside enjoy the beautiful scenery that Toowoomba has to offer, go for a walk, run or organise a family activity in the park
Do some training that you haven’t done for a long time like swim training or get the bike out for a spin
Try a yoga or Pilates class which is what we looked at last week
Or join a team sport
As you can see there is so much you can do to change up your exercise to keep you focussed, motivated and having some fun!
I always say that in order for you to stick to something you have to enjoy it, but sometimes it takes time to find the right exercise that works for you – so don’t give up, keep trying and remember that variety really is the spice of life!
