Sometimes life takes us on journeys that we never imagine we would ever travel.
Several weeks ago I sat in a room and was shown a photo of a strip of road with an X to mark the spot of the accident that changed my life and the spot where my beautiful daughter lost her life.
That moment rocked me as I had never seen or been near the accident. It has been the one moment in time I have never wanted or been able to face - I think I have been so frightened of the horror that my family went through on that day.
Also the kids and I have only had the energy to be dealing with the overwhelming grief and just trying to live and survive.
Anyway, since seeing the photo of the accident I have felt this strong need to finally travel to the where my families life changed and to especially see the place where Jimmy lost her life. A mother should know - but it has not been until now that I have had the strength to take that journey.
On Sunday morning I did this trip and I did this alone - it was hardest road trip I have ever taken and my heart ached for Imogen all of the way. I stood by the side of the road and finally thought of all that my family must of experienced in that moment - not just Imogen and Paul but Annabel and Elye - these four people are my heroes - the most amazing people I have ever known.
I also cried a river of tears for Imogen - you see grieving for two is never easy and expressing and dealing with my grief for Paul has been easier than facing the raw edge of a mothers grief for her child.
A mothers bond is strong and intense and it is unbreakable.
When the moment to go arrived I left the most beautiful bunch of flowers for her by the side of the road - a gift from me to her and the most important bunch of flowers I will ever give - these flowers where filled with all of the love I that I carry for her and always will.
I share this story with you as I want people to understand the journey of grief - but also to remember to love the people around you. They are a gift in your life and should never be taken for granted.
Today remember to love.
